1 – 10 November 2013
Opening & artist talk Thursday 31 October 6pm
Level Project Space, Studio 3.12, 109 Edward Street Brisbane
Exhibition hours: 2-6pm Friday-Sunday
During Leena Riethmuller’s residency, the artist conducted a six week somatic experience workshop involving five participants. Each week, a task was introduced to engage the participants in new bodily experiences. The participants discussed their own, and other group member’s, responses to the task, and reflected upon the way that context and subjectivity effect experience. The workshops promoted a pragmatic approach to bodily exploration and encouraged personal, social, political and phenomenological discussion. More Human exhibits a collection of the participants’ documentation and reflection on each of the workshop tasks. It provokes fascination and disgust and gives insight into the bodily experiences of others.
Leena has exhibited nationally including shows with inbetweenspaces, EXIST, FELTspace (Adelaide) and Screenspace (Melbourne). In 2013 Leena was a finalist in the Churchie National Emerging Art Prize. In 2012 Leena graduated with a Bachelor Fine Art with Honours at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. Leena is Gallery Manager at Boxcopy ARI, a co-founder of Addition ARI and has worked on various festivals including Brisbane Festival, Serial Space’s Time Machine Festival (Sydney) and Backbone’s 2high Festival.
