LEVEL Project Space Studio 3.12  109 Edward Street, Brisbane
Exhibition hours: 2-6pm Friday – Sunday

You Just Keep Me Hanging On by Camille Serisier is the third installment of her ‘A Perfect Day’ series. The series presents cascading interpretations of initial drawings, which explore cultural narratives linking the environment and the feminine. The second body of work, showing concurrently at Hold, reproduced these drawings as large-scale tableau vivants that deconstruct the source images and emphasise their political valence. You Just Keep me Hanging On reinterprets the tableaus using watercolour and pencil on paper, connecting them to the painterly tradition and grounding them in two-dimensional space. By engaging multiple mediums and levels of interpretation, Serisier interrogates the processes through which some narratives come to appear natural and unproblematic, while others are rendered incredible. In doing so, she draws the various iterations of each image into conversation, pointing to the multiple histories and ways of understanding that are obscured by dominant narratives.

Through her practice Camille Serisier investigates forms of feminine and environmental narrative construction in Australian cultural material. She received a Bachelor of Fine Art with First Class Honours from the Australian National University, where she was a National Undergraduate Scholarship holder for the entirety of her degree. She has received numerous grants and prizes, including the Neil Roberts Sculpture Prize, the NAVA Australian Artist Grant and the Arts Queensland Career Development Grant.
